  • In pursuit of service and delivering hope, Senator Crewing (Manila) Inc., in partnership with Doulos Hope, visited the Asian Student Christian Foundation, Inc. – Children of the Dump Manila on Saturday, April 13 in Rodriguez, Rizal.
  • Asian Student Christian Foundation (ASCF) was established in 1975 with an organizational structure consisting of residential care, extended family care, and preschool education. The foundation, with its structure, aims to provide residential care offered at Mango Tree House – which currently caters to 35 youngsters who have been subject to abuse, abandoned, neglected, or alone. The Cashew Tree, built at the Payatas dump site in 1998, teaches over 150 children from 4 years old to 6 years old. Lastly, the Papaya Academy located near Montalban, Rizal is a selective, non-residential school for children ages 6 to 12 years old respectively.
  • Team Senator with Doulos Hope arrived at 9:00 a.m. and immediately started the program led by Chief Jerahmeel Aries Soler. Chief Soler engaged the children with activities such as discussion about a seafarer’s job, sing-alongs, and parlor games – which was aided by Christine Samonte, SCM’s accounting officer. Chief Soler also taught the children of greetings in foreign languages. On the other hand, Doulos Hope’s Ports Engagement Director Jabulani Mlambo graced the children with his storytelling of Noah’s Ark. Colleague of Mr. Mlambo, Bookfair Manager Marlies Haitsma provided an exciting activity of a ship-building puzzle afterwards.
  • Doulos Hope donated books suitable for ages 7 to 12 years old wherein each child attended was given one. Meanwhile, Team Senator’s bought books from previous MV Doulos Hope visit were donated to the school’s library. These initiatives from both teams will greatly help the education of the children. Lunch for everyone was provided by the Team Senator after all the engagements and the distribution of books commenced afterwards.
  • Team Senator and Team Doulos Hope were given a chance to see the facilities of ASCF whereas both teams were educated on the functions of each facility and how it helps nurture and take care of the resident and non-resident children. Finally, ASCF along with both teams visited the satellite school at the dump site with approximately a 15-minute drive away from the main facility. The satellite school caters to children who are living with their families but have no means to travel to the main facility.
  • Team Senator and Doulos Hope’s initiative was indeed a fruitful one. Team Senator and Doulos Hope believe in an action-based approach that aims not only to spread awareness of the current situation of the foundation but to also take part in the action – to drive donations necessary to help further develop the facilities, acquire educational tools, and for the welfare of the students. Abiding by the principle of sharing knowledge, help, and hope.
  • In line with the continuous efforts to preserve and protect the environment Senator Crewing Manila volunteered in the 38th International Coastal Clean-Up at the back of Solaire Resort Manila Bay on September 16 spearheaded by the DENR.

International Coastal Cleanup or ICC is a global initiative dedicated to resolving ocean pollution through beach and waterway cleanups held every third Sunday of September. With the theme “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries”. The difference of ICC to other clean ups, they require the volunteers to record the items in a standardized data card to gather valuable data.

Senator Crewing Manila proudly joined a group of 300 dedicated volunteers who attended the event. Our commitment to preserving natural resources and protecting marine ecosystems goes beyond our daily work. As a company, we prioritize environmental care alongside our professional responsibilities.

This marks the beginning of a series of coastal clean-up activities that SCM will actively participate in.
  • In December 2021, Super Typhoon Odette (internationally known as Typhoon Rai) ravaged the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands in Mindanao, five provinces of Visayas, and the island of Palawan in Luzon before leaving the Philippine area. It brought torrential rains, violent winds, landslides, and storm surges to the country. Team Senator completed a phone barrage to the crewmembers’ families living in crucial areas. The company then launched a financial support campaign through donation, as well as cash advance for those who already signed a Philippine Overseas Employment Administration contract and Special Allotment for those who were onboard. There are at least 54 families who benefited from this initiative

  • Following the destructive supertyphoon Yolanda in 2013, the company’s outreach program extended to the community, leading the restoration of a classroom building in Luneta Elementary School in La Paz, Leyte and Bonga Menor Elementary School, Bustos Bulacan through the generosity of SCM’s clients, NSB GROUP (REEDEREI NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG) and CSMCY (Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd Cyprus). The restoration was completed in early 2014 and has provided much-needed classrooms to help normalize the studying and learning activities of school children in the community.
