We are searching for a reliable and trustworthy Crew & Family Welfare Officer to join our organization who must be a personable communicator with outstanding social skills and a warm, friendly, and caring personality to follow up concerns of stakeholders. 

Responsibilities

  • Works as a path between seafarers and office management to ensure each party’s utmost interest and maintain good seafarers and manning agency relationships within the organization. 
  • Compliant management of seafarers as early as possible by coordinating with the department head’s concern to resolve grievances or complaints and communicate the seafarer’s needs and complaints in the workplace.
  • Provide ideas to the management of the manning agency while there is any internal labor management policy is formulated.
  • Monitor the seafarer family’s welfare and provide support while it is required and updates crew or family on the status of their grievance/request
  • Counseling the workers so as not to be mentally disturbed with any situations and monitor the improvement and liaise with third party consultants as needed.
  • Provide safety guidelines and best practices for lifestyle health and safety for the crew and family through the manning agency’s medical partners and communicate the seafarer’s needs and complaints in the workplace.
  • Keep records of all the activities done for welfare management and maintains record of grievance/requests from crew or their family and the corresponding response/activities taken by the company to resolve the issue.
  • Recommend training and awareness programs for the workers so that they can keep themselves from involving in any unhealthy activities.
  • Propose corporate social responsibility events to the management for budget approval (Examples: social fellowship events with the immediate families of our seafarers for relationship building / employee fun runs as fitness activities / environmental clean-up initiatives involving team building / activities involving charity events to the less fortunate / etc). 
  • Conduct weekly POEA/DMW Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar to departing seafarers before joining their respective vessel assignments. This role is also responsible for updating changes to the PDOS lecture, monthly reports to OWWA (1st week of the month), keeps the proper documentations for Renewal of PDOS Trainer and as PDOS Provider, the issuance of PDOS Certificate plus the collection of feedback from attendees and the monthly summary report.
  • Finally, a welfare officer is mainly working for ensuring a positive work environment for the seafarers which will ultimately be beneficial for both seafarers and manning agency. The reason behind appointing a crew and welfare officer is to reduce the seafarer’s conflict with the manning agency.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is someone who has already at least one year experience as a “Crew & Family Welfare Officer” from a reputable manning agency. Preferably, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Psychology.
