Senator Crewing Manila partnered with Adopt A Ship International in the Philippines

Team Senator proudly participated in the launch of the Adopt A Ship Program in the Philippines, alongside crewing managers and chief engineers, to inspire students and promote maritime awareness. This initiative, originating in Cyprus, aims to connect elementary school children with seafarers on-board ships, fostering maritime education and geographic understanding.

Alongside George Hoyt, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Goodwill Ambassador, and Chief Officer Jeff Aldas, Adopt A Ship Philippines Coordinator, the event was held in San Pedro Laguna on March 22 with 200 students from Grade 4 to Grade 6 of Adelina 1 Complex Elementary School, along with their parents and teachers.

During the event, Capt. Garcia shared his experiences as a seafarer and enlightened the students about the job, stating, “Do you have any idea of what a seafarer does? Seafarers transport goods to different places and countries. That’s the job of a seafarer.”

The students were inspired and engaged during the talk. As a sign of appreciation, corporate giveaways were provided to teachers during the opening ceremony, while the children received “Sea the Future” pins.

As Capt. Garcia’s closing remarks wrapped up the event, a strong sense of purpose and inspiration was evident among the students. With his words resonating, they departed the event with a newfound appreciation for the maritime industry.

Looking ahead, Team Senator is committed to be part of this project to inspire and provide educational benefits and career opportunities for the younger generation.
