Team Senator’s first-hand experience aboard MV Doulos Hope

MANILA April 2024 – Sea-based manning agency Senator Crewing (Manila) Inc., also part of Columbia Group, visited the renowned “floating bookfair” MV Doulos Hope on Wednesday, April 3, and Thursday, April 11 at the Eva Macapagal Terminal, Port Area Manila with the mission to buy books to be donated for their upcoming outreach program with Children of the Dump, a UK-based charity for children since 1975, on April 13.

Team Senator consisted of three batches and was warmly welcomed aboard by Doulos Hope’s Captain
Thomas James Dyer and his multinational crew – Filipino crew, among others.

Doulos Hope’s crew commenced the event by providing Team Senator refreshments, an AVP presentation, and an introduction speech and summary of the vessel’s history from Captain Dyer.

Chief Rammel Rosales pioneered the tour around the vessel. Team Senator was given a chance to see the events hall that is mostly used as a worship room – Doulos Hope being a Christian community. The team also explored the bridge, the suite, and the engine room, and finally had the chance to experience the bookfair itself.

Chief Rosales, leading the way, shared Doulos Hope’s volunteers’ mission to engage in community service, humanitarian aid, and imparting knowledge, especially to children, through the bookfair and charity service – upholding their principle “to share knowledge, help, and hope.”

Doulos Hope, now under GBA Ships, is currently touring around Asia, Manila being scheduled on March 27 to April 14, 2024. While anchored in Manila, they open the gangways to visitors who wish to experience the floating bookfair with a wide variety of books to choose from at an affordable price.

A fruitful and engaging visit indeed for Team Senator – grateful for the opportunity to delve into MV Doulos Hope’s purpose, and proud of the multinational crew, especially the Filipino crew, for their involvement in such an important and humanitarian act.
